Description of Significance THE SPAULDING SCHOOL GYMNASIUM/AUDITORIUM WAS A 1936 WPA PROJECT IN HUGHES COUNTY. THE BUILDING IS A SINGLE STORY RECTANGULAR BUILDING WITH A SANDSTONE VENEER. THE CONSTRUCTION PROJECT PROVIDED JOBS FOR UNEMPLOYED OIL FIELD WORKERS AND PROVIDED A SPACE FOR THE LOCAL COMMUNITY TO CONDUCT VARIOUS SCHOOL AND OTHER ACTIVITIES. THE INTEGRITY OF THE BUILDING IS QUESTIONABLE DUE TO MULTIPLE ADDITIONS AND THE REPLACEMENT OF ORIGINAL DOORS AND WINDOWS. LISTED IN NATIONAL REGISTER 9/8/1988.
